Drum Rudiments - building right and left equilibrium. In Harrow, London

The way to build up the right and left side of the drummer is very important.  It is a fallacy to say that a drummer has a strong left but a weak right hand in the same way that it is absurd to say a car manufacturer makes great cars but with weak left wheels.  I start my students with the habit of practicing and mastering single stroke, double stroke, paradiddle and buzz or multiple bounce roll with a right, then left start. This is done with a bass drum placed on the first of every eight strokes.  After this we expand and play on the toms, snare, hats and turn it all into something elegant and musical.  From West London Drum Tutor, drum kit teacher in Harrow, London  http://youtu.be/UWzTKL9HKwo

Open hi-hat videos in Harrow London

These are my new videos where you open a hi-hat on any of the first four beats in an eighth note drum kit groove.  You can open a hi-hat on the first, closed on the subsequent beat, or open on the second, third, or fourth beat.  These are used with varying dynamics and form an important part of the feel and intensity of a drum rhythm or groove. There are three main drum stick manufacturers, but Vic Firth sticks are made with the best materials and are matched and made with the same weight, length and straightness.  The importance of this can not be overlooked as when you play subtle and quiet, the quality of the sticks will malign your technique.  There are many varieties and you will find sticks of all sizes, and for all contexts.  From West London Drum Tutor, Drum Teacher in Harrow, London

The Bill Hydes practice pad is simple and very effective way to apply the snare drum rudiments.  it works by eliminating excessive noise while allowing the drummer to refine stick holding and rudiment mastery.   From West London Drum Tutor, drum lessons in Harrow, London www.westlondon-drumtutor.com

After spending some time reflecting on the double rudiments, I have started to explore the double rudiments in a bass - snare, or snare - bass patterning.  The effect is expressive and very interesting, making great fills and permeations through and all over the other drums and cymbals.
