Moeller Stick Technique

This is a way of gaining speed, accuracy, and stick efficiency through essentially gaining two strokes or three for one hand movement.  The natural physics of the stick will bounce multiple times when held in the fulcrum.  Most drummers practice Moeller technique in a three stroke, or triplet delivery.  The hand motion is in three parts; 1. The stick strikes the snare and rebounds up, 2. There is a ‘tap’ or secondary stroke resulting from the first, 3. The Moeller ‘up stroke’, which is where the stick hits the snare drum a third time when the drummer lifts his hand up in order to get ready for the first stroke again.

Learning drums is a great skill to have as it allows you to understand how percussion structures and gives energy to music.  It is my personal understanding that learning drums allows a privileged insight into musical practice and theory, whilst bringing about greater musical meaning and enjoyment.  Knowing how to read music and applying basic skills like how time signatures work, also serve to connect a person in the theory, performance and enjoyment of all music.
